An Ambitious Project
Starting Saturday, I will finally use a week of my accrued vacation to...new quite sure yet.
You see, it's been a year of emergencies for our family, so most of our plans for this year since haven't happened.
Now, I have an idea on how I'd like to spend that week.
I'd like to get down to Raleigh for thirty-six hours with Timothy to see my father (while I still have a father to see) and see Sarah and her family, too.
However, it's uncertain yet if Timothy and Daniel have to go out of town for business yet.
Faith, who has cancer and needs medicine twice a day, can't be left alone. And Rebekah, who is going through some health challenges and needs to see two specialists, also should not be left alone.
These background challenges make for a row of these ??? when it comes to solidly planning next week.
However.
Assuming that ALL of the hours (and hopefully none) turn into emergencies, I have a novel I'd like to write.
Yes, you read that correctly.
I'd like to write an entire novel - in one week. And as long as I have at least four solid days to write, or a few good hours every day, I think I can get an extremely rough draft done of one novel completed.
The book is divided into four sections.
The structure is atypical - but not untried by other writers.
And it's a small-ish novel, nothing like, say Before The Blood.
It's a standalone novel and loosely, very loosely. attached to the other BryonySeries books. Yes, I have title. Yes, I have a synopsis.
But I probably won't share any of these until the novel is completed.
I've also begun the third and last book in the BryonySeries Limbo trilogy: House on Top of the Hill.
But I'll set that novel aside next week in favor of this ambitious project.
Happy Monday - and wish me luck!

Never Too Old...
As a kid, I always wanted to dress up as a witch, but my mother picked more "fun costumes:" cowgirl, drum majorette, wash woman, etc.
So now, I have a purple and black witch hat and cloak. And I wear it every year to take the grandkids trick or treating.
Can't wait for tonight!
(And neither can Bertrand, whom I holding in his vampire costume from last year. This year, he is going as Superman, his pick, not mine).

Why Vampires?
My fascination with witches stretches so far backward in time that it's almost subliminal. I have no idea where or how it began. I only remember wanting to dress up as a witch every Halloween, but my mother preferred less gory attire. I was a cowgirl in kindergarten and a drum majorette for the next couple years, followed by a cleaning lady.
My official introduction to vampires is easier to pinpoint. A neighbor boy was obsessed with monsters and knew all the old movies that had been made about them; he got us hooked. Each summer, one television stationed offered a morning movie series called, “Creature Features,” where, for a week or two, five days a week, it broadcasted those old favorites.
Somewhere, along the way, I decided vampires held an appeal mystique than werewolves (a close second), to Frankenstein, mummies, or Godzilla. I’ve not outgrown that attraction.
