Slugs for a Day (NOT!)

By slight design, all members of the Core Four had Friday off work, presumbably to rest since we were working Ye Olde May Fest all weekend.

We mostly did not rest.

And that's not because we weren't tired - or because we got busy with housework. (we swore off most housework for the day).

Trust me, we were not busy with housework at all. No, it's all still waiting for us.

But you know how it goes. One thing and then another and then another and just one more thing popped up until the day ended.

Now, Friday was definitely a low-pressure day. No one was moving at top speed. We just had "stuff" to do here and there.

Still, I'm conflicted. The day off didn't happen. And now we've got all this work in the house to do.

At least half of us are working next weekend, too.

I often say that life is an adventure. Maybe the quest for a sluggish day is, too.

And life - and maybe rest, too - happens only in the moment.

You can take an entire day off from life until life is no more and all the days are gone.

This photo of two of my grandsons is six years old. The location is no longer part of our lives and one boy just graduated from high school last week.

Friday was not a sluggish day. But it wasn't a bad day. It was a productively relaxed day.

So thankful I didn't miss it.

Determined to Find the Time

One might think that a narrowed field of interest would guarantee plenty of time to pursue those interests, but alas! That is not the case at all.

The challenge, I believe, stems from a passion to fully develop and perfect those interests, which requires copious amounts of time. Moreover, those interests so absorb me that I count months and years the way others count hours and days. Where does the time go?

Somehow, some way, I need to carve some fiction-writing into my days. One day a week isn't cutting it.

But I love the job, too, and get caught up in it. I want to do the "one more thing" here and "a touch more here." Feature-writing appeals to my strong sense of ministry and serving others, of getting local people's information out there and sharing inspiring stories with readers.

The older me feels a stronger commitment to my exercise regime than the younger version ever had, so no compromising here. The domestic me wants not only a clean house, but a cozy one, so those living with me, as well as me, can find preace and rest.

My weekdays look like this: prayer, exercise, work, housework, exercise, and prayer (with interaction with loved ones mingled in the mix).

BUT...

The creative me shouts out for more expression!

Crap.

I have twenty-four hours like everyone else. Somehow, I need to figure this out.

The Experimental Posts and Play Lists

Because the dates of posts one, two, and three don't match when I actually posted them, I am writing this post to check the date when I should be editing two other stories.

Maybe, it's my general lack of technical knowledge, but if I post a piece at midnight or even two a.m., I'm baffled why the date and time posts incorrectly. So much for organized, advanced planning!

On another note, writelifellc.wordpress.com had an interesting post this morning about play lists. Until I saw another author post her inspirational song titles, I thought I was the only one who found that certain music inspired scenes, moods, and even characters' personality traits.

However, my song/artist list for Bryony is rather disversifed and eclectic, so I doubt it will ever make a good movie soundtrack. While composing the three books that comprise the Bryony series thus far, I listened to classical piano music (no surprises there), Sanctus Real, Switchfoot, Seabird, Remedy Drive, Crystal Gayle, ELO, the Partridge Family, and tin whistle compositions on YouTube.

I have started the notes for Bryony's prequel, Before the Blood, and I finding myself drawn to Queensryche, Guns and Roses, and Al Stewart. Hmmm.....
