Story Round-Up: Features in The Herald-News, March 31 through April 5

A huge THANK YOU to everyone who attended, participated, or in any way supported WriteOn Joliet's open mic night last night, especially to the Book and Bean Cafe that always so graciously hosts us.

A bit of insomnia last night has me a bit buzzy today. So just a couple quick announcements and then onto the story.

During the month of May, WriteOn Joliet will host a display of collaborative works at the Joliet Public Library's downtown branch, located at 150 N. Ottawa St. in Joliet.

Then from 6 to 8:30 p.m. May 30, members of WriteOn Joliet will host a meet and greet with patrons. We will also sell copies of our individual works as well as our three anthologies. The third, Cheetah Stories, is based on one silly prompt and will be released for purchase by the general public on May 30. More on this closer to the date.

The third installment of Before the Blood: Bryony Marseilles is available HERE.

A new Bertrand the Mouse book is available HERE.

My editor Colleen Robbins, author of Daraga's Quest, has told me she's nearly done editing the fourth installment of Before the Blood. We're musing on possible April dates right now. This book is due for a June release.

The WriteOn Joliet Gothic Book club, which took a fantasy turn this year, will complete its discussion of Daraga's Quest this Saturday from 12:30 to 2 p.m. at the Book and Bean Cafe, 3395 Black Road, in Joliet.

We have not decided on our next title, but there's been talk of reading Bryony next. If you have not read the book yet, this might be an opportunity to read it a little at a time.

Story Round-Up: Features in The Herald-News, Sept. 23 through Sept. 28

A HUGE, heartfelt THANK YOU to each and every person who took a few minutes to stop by Book and Bean Cafe in Joliet to check out the "Art of the BryonySeries" exhibit and meet the artists: Matt Coundiff, Terri Ellinger, Topher Gleason, and Sue Midlock.

The last guest left at four minutes to closing time.

If you missed it, there's still time to see it.

The very nice Dick Schuster from Joliet Community Television (JCTV) came out and did a 15-minute segment. He is planning to air the episode several times a day through the next mont (the exhibit comes down on Oct. 31).

Also, the exhibit will remain up another month. I do have plenty of photos to share and am hoping to make albums on the BryonySeries Facbeook page in another week or so.

Romeoville mom is ready to speak up Will share her experiences with domestic violence at Take Back the Night in Joliet

Alicia Guerrero said she is taking her cues from past Take Back the Night speakers as to the details she’ll share at the event. She’ll discuss her experiences and about the importance of speaking up if one is being abused or know someone being abused.

She’ll talk about Briana, her teen daughter, who was stalked and then murdered.

On Aug. 5, Joanie Sliepka was recognized at our church for being a five-year cancer survivor, an event my daughter caught on video with her phone. On Aug. 24, I received a text from another church member that Joanie was in the ICU because of a heart attack. She died Aug. 27. She was 74.

But St. Nicholas still will have some lap robes for its 2019 spaghetti dinner.

Story Round-Up: Features in The Herald-News, May 8 through May 13

It's been a throwback week of sorts with Sarah and Lucas staying at the townhome with us, working offsite so as to spend time with Illinois family and friends and celebrate Rebekah's graduation from Joliet Junior College tonight.

Saturday we spent at Good Will and found a beautiful dress for Rebekah; Sunday we visited the significant mothers in our past at three different cemetaries. Most of the bonding this week (due to my long work hours) was back and forth conversation in the morning as I'm getting ready to leave or driving home with them Monday and Tuesday (it rained, so they picked me up) or walking home (Wednesday the sun finally came out).

On Wednesday evening at the fitness room, Sarah showd me some techniques for triceps and core, tips she learned from working with a personal trainer. Tomorrow is a huge party for family and friends (haev many birthdays and one graduation to celebrate) and then the festivities end for awhile.

Art exhibit at Gallery Seven in Joliet is 'En-Lightening' (VIDEO EXTRA)
