Story Round-Up: Features in The Herald-News, April 26 through May 2

Good morning!

I have just eight feature stories to share with you today at the bottom of this post (amazing considering I took a few days off last week for WriteOn Joliet's radio play and I'm off work today) - and more will go live this weekend. Bertrand the Mouse: Rebekah and I recently created a very special Bertrand the Mouse book that I'm hoping to give away at a special event...and it looks great! Yes, I'm STILL being mysterious about it...for now.

The Adventures of Cornell Dyer: Cornell Dyer and the House of Horreur" (because the toymaker's last name is "Horreur.") is stalled until Timothy finished his master's degree, which he did. So now we just have to stop having family emergencies (they just keep coming) and carve some time for a Cornell breakfast (it's been three years since our last one, way, way too long).

Brainy Ann: The fifth book in The Girls of the BryonySeries is outlined and the first chapter is written, hurray! Jennifer Wainwright, who welcomed her first child into the world last year, is nearly done with the cover portrait. I let this book slide for other BryonySeries projects...and I'm still letting it slide, I'm afraid. But I'm hoping to finish the book in 2025.

Jennifer designed the cover portraits for "Julie and the Too-Hard Homework," "Katie and the Big Fear," "Summer Sisters." and "Karla Joins In," as well as the frontispiece for "Lycanthropic Summer."

Bertrand the Mouse: I have tons of Bertrand photos and books in progress. The goal is to release at least two new ones this year.

Rebekah is also slowly (very, very slowly) updating the BryonySeries YouTube and Pinterest accounts. And she' catching up with Kindles for some of the BryonySeries books. So do watch for those.

RECIPE OF THE WEEK

Sue's Diner is a fictional restaurant in the fictional Munsonville that only exists in the BryonySeries.

Each Wednesday, we post a new recipe. The recipe is either featured in one of our cookbooks, will be featured in an upcoming cookbook, or is just an "extra" we want to share with you.

Story Round-Up: Features in The Herald-News, Sept. 1 through Sept. 6

It's been a blur of a couple weeks back! (although it's been great to be back).

Timothy's birthday is this weekend, so I'm hoping to slow down a bit (and laughing out loud as I look at my to-do list).

Still, pause and rest is important (even to me). So while I'm delighted I made progress on some projects, I plan to balance that with some quiet, creative time, and also with some family time.

Story Round-Up: Features in The Herald-News, Nov. 25 through Nov. 30

T'is the season to be super busy!

With some extra work projects this month and extra meetings today, I'll just (almost) right to the stories.

One upcoming event of particular note: The WriteOn Joliet Gothic Book Club is concluding it's "read" of Sue Mydliak's Birthright season this Saturday. For the next couple months, we will take a fantasy turn and read Colleen Robbins Daruga's Quest.

If you haven't checked us out, tomorrow would be a good day to do so. We meet from 12:30 to 2 p.m. at the Book and Bean Cafe, 3395 Black Road in Joliet (inside the Joliet Public Library).

The book club is perfectly free (the coffee is not), and one does not need to belong to WriteOn Joliet to attend.

Story Round-Up: Features in The Herald-News, June 3 through June 8

Quick "weather report:" It's raining in Joliet but not on my parade!

Yesterday Rebekah worked on formatting the second book in the Adventures of Cornell Dyer series, Cornell Dyer and the Necklace of Forgetfulness.

And I got absolutely no editing done on Kellen this past week, but am planning to spend Sunday afternoon on it. In tupical "He loves me, he loves me not," fashion, I kept going back and forth with, "It needs lots of work, it does not," until I was messing around with it too much and altering its basic premise.

So I decided to back off and not rush it, to play with it when I could give it focused attention.

Tomorrow, I'm watching a grandson's T-ball game early in the morning (if it's not called on rain), cooking with Rebekah later in the day, and working on the fifth and final novel of Before the Blood when I'm not doing any of the above.

And church. And sleep.

During that last trip, Karolyn Nelson recalled one little girl who never smiled, except when she was around Jessie, which made the trip for Jessie.

Story Round-Up: Features in The Herald-News, May 8 through May 13

It's been a throwback week of sorts with Sarah and Lucas staying at the townhome with us, working offsite so as to spend time with Illinois family and friends and celebrate Rebekah's graduation from Joliet Junior College tonight.

Saturday we spent at Good Will and found a beautiful dress for Rebekah; Sunday we visited the significant mothers in our past at three different cemetaries. Most of the bonding this week (due to my long work hours) was back and forth conversation in the morning as I'm getting ready to leave or driving home with them Monday and Tuesday (it rained, so they picked me up) or walking home (Wednesday the sun finally came out).

On Wednesday evening at the fitness room, Sarah showd me some techniques for triceps and core, tips she learned from working with a personal trainer. Tomorrow is a huge party for family and friends (haev many birthdays and one graduation to celebrate) and then the festivities end for awhile.
